A pair of marketing teachers and DECA advisors, Jaime Carter of Sandy Creek High and Karen Stoll of Whitewater High, have formed the Fayette County Marketing Education Advisory Board with the purpose of providing high school students opportunities and experiences that will help them become aware of, explore, and prepare for a career.
In addition to Carter and Stoll, the advisory board includes representatives from local businesses and industries. They are Hamzah Faruqi, director of sales at Adventure Aviation; Sally Ray, marketing manager at Hoshizaki America, Inc.; Geoff Fulton of Fulton and Kozak CPA; and Kenny Stapleton, account executive from CBS-Atlanta 46. Also on the board are assistant principals, guidance counselors, parents, and students from both Sandy Creek and Whitewater High.
The advisory board had its first meeting at the end of 2015 at Sandy Creek High. Discussion focused on career pathways, and how local business partners can assist with keeping programs up-to-date with industry standards, and providing real-life work experiences through mentorships and internships. Workplace tours were suggested as an opportunity for students to gain a better understanding of how today’s businesses operate.
The Fayette County Marketing Education Advisory Board plans to meet several times throughout the school year, and is looking for additional business and industry representatives to join. Anyone interested in becoming a member of the board should contact Carter at [email protected] or Stoll at [email protected].
