Senoia police are investigating a rash of entering auto incidents that have occurred in residential neighborhoods along Rockaway Road since late November. Investigators working the cases are reminding residents to keep their vehicles locked and keep valuables out of plain sight.

Major Steve Tomlin on Thursday said the department has responded to approximately 30 entering auto-related calls from Nov. 28 through Jan. 4, with the largest number of incidents occurring on Sunday night, Jan. 3.

“All incidents have occurred in the residential areas of Rockaway Road,” said Tomlin. “All vehicles were unlocked at the time of the incidents and no vehicle owners reported damage to their vehicles. Items taken range from firearms, jewelry, money, to electronics.”

Tomlin said extra patrols were set in place along with additional surveillance elements.

“Lt. Jason Ercole with Criminal Investigations has been working diligently with information gathered from the patrol officers and he has identified a strong person of interest,” said Tomlin. “We have received very good feedback and information from the citizens and they have done a wonderful job relaying information to each other through social media as well as homeowner association websites.”

The police department also used its Twitter account Monday when the majority of the calls were being received. A statement on Twitter was released by the police department of the incidents and for homeowners to contact police if they had seen anything suspicious the night before or into the early morning hours of Monday, Tomlin said.

”We have urged citizens to remember to keep their vehicles locked and any valuables out of plain sight or to take the items inside their residence when they exit their vehicle,” Tomlin said.
