Mrs. Rachel Ernestine “Teenie” Shaddix passed away on Friday, December 25, 2015 at the age of 90.
She was born on February 14, 1925 in Lanett, Ala. to the late James Hoyt Gay and Elsie Maude Avery Gay.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Jesse W. Shaddix.
Mrs. Shaddix graduated from Lanett High School in 1943. On October 4, 1943, she married her high school sweetheart, Jesse W. Shaddix, while he was in basic training at Keesler Air Force Base. Mrs. Shaddix had a variety of interests that included playing the violin, bowling, and traveling. She was an accomplished violinist as she played with the “In and About Atlanta High School Orchestra” in 1937. She was also a member of the East Point Women’s Club in the 1950’s and bowled with the Rolling Pins of the East Point Triangle Lanes in the 1970’s. Her love of traveling took her to all 50 states, cruises in Europe, Alaska, Hawaii and the Caribbean, as well as trips to China, Japan, Australia and South America.
Mrs. Shaddix is survived by son, James Stephen Shaddix, daughter-in-law, Sue of Tyrone, Ga.; daughter Susan McCollum, son-in-law, Jay of Demorest, Ga.; daughter, Peggy Roy, son-in-law, Leland of Fayetteville, Ga.; daughter, Nancy Pickering, son-in-law, John David of Missoula, Mont.; daughter, Linda Mitchell, son-in-law, Scott of Riverdale, Ga.; 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Herman W. Shaddix and sister-in-law, Louise of Panama City, Fla.; six nephews, and caregivers Jamie Glenn and Monique Williams. Mrs. Shaddix was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tyrone.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, December 31, 2015, at 11 a.m., at First Baptist Church, Tyrone, with Pastor Danny Garrett officiating. Burial will follow at Sharon Memorial Gardens, Tyrone. The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service at the church.
