The annual Christmas parade in Newnan is always a hit, but attendance this year for the 60-entry parade was the biggest on record with several thousand people lining the streets.

The 2015 version of the Newnan Christmas Parade on Dec. 12 came with clear skies and moderate weather. It could hardly have been more perfect. Responding to the picture-perfect setting were huge crowds.

Both city staff and police, along with a host of regular attendees, said they had never seen a crowd so large for the annual Christmas event.

The 60-entry parade began at Newnan High School on LaGrange Street, continued onto Jackson Street and made its way to the historic courthouse downtown. The parade proceeded around the courthouse, onto Jefferson Street and ended at the Coweta County Justice Center.

Crowds lined the parade route, standing 10-deep in some locations near downtown.

The mood downtown was festive, with music playing over the PA system and Santa’s helpers passing out goodies for the kids.

When it came to judging the float entries, the judges awarded the following:

– First place in the big business category went to Lowe’s Home Improvement with second place awarded to Home Depot.

– First place in the small business category went to Karate Atlanta while Jake Stanley State Farm took home the second place award.

– Winner of the first Place award for nonprofits was Newnan Hospital with second Place going to the Coweta County Probate Court.

– The school category first Place winner was Western Elementary School while Southern Arc Dance took home second Place honors.

– Happy Valley Baptist Church won first place in the church category and Trinity Baptist Church was awarded the second place title.
