East Coweta High School Principal Steve Allen sent a letter to parents on Nov. 18 in response to a student who showed up in the parking lot on Nov. 17 draped in a Confederate flag and wearing a hood. The unnamed student is facing disciplinary charges.

“On Tuesday morning, in the parking lot of East Coweta High School before the start of class, a photo was taken of a student who appeared wearing a KKK-style hood and a Confederate-style flag. The photo was posted on social media,” Allen said.

Allen said the photo came to the high school administration’s attention during the school day.

“The two students who were involved were identified and an immediate investigation was conducted. From the school’s investigation, it was determined that no specific threat was made in the incident,” Allen said. “The school system is continuing to investigate the matter and is implementing disciplinary consequences.”

Allen said the Coweta County School System does not allow behavior that infringes on the safety of its students, staff or volunteers and does not tolerate behavior intended to bully, harass or intimidate others on school campuses.
