Gabriella (Gaby) Julia Kesler of Peachtree City, Ga. passed away on Sunday, November 15, 2015.
She was born on April 16, 1925 in Antwerp, Belgium, the daughter of Joannes Felix and Adriana Josephina Calewaert. A native speaker of Flemish, she gained fluency in English and thus landed a job in a U. S. Army office in Antwerp near the end of World War II. There she met Lt. Mac Kesler, an American soldier and true Southern gentleman who impressed her with his courtly manners. Her independent spirit served her well when she married Mac just after the war and became a faithful Army wife, leaving her familiar life in Antwerp behind for a life where moving to locations throughout the U. S. and abroad became the norm. Gaby was an avid golfer and talented cook, and she was quite skilled at creating beautiful needlework projects, an art she learned as a young girl in Belguim.
She is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Cindy Kesler of Carrollton, Ga. and John and Joyce Kesler of Dunwoody, Ga.; grandchildren Jonathan and Amy Kesler of Canton, Ga., Jason Kesler of Carrollton, and Jennifer and Justin Allen of Carrollton; great-grandchildren Avery and Cameron Kesler of Canton, and Carter and Julia Allen of Carrollton.
Her remains will be laid to rest with those of her husband at a later date at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Ga.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Army Emergency Relief, ATTN: Donations, 200 Stovall St. Room 5S33, Alexandria, Va. 22332-0600.
