Incumbents win in Senoia and Tyrone

The November elections are history. Voters had their say and, as a result, incumbent council members in Tyrone and Senoia were re-elected while those in Fayetteville fell to challengers.

The race for the Post 1 council seat in Peachtree City resulted in Planning Commissioner Phil Prebor defeating Shayne Robinson. Prebor garnered 1,638 votes, or 78.86 percent, compared to 427 votes, or 20.56 percent, for Robinson.

The referendum of establishing a Tax Allocation District in Peachtree City was defeated handily, with 65.36 percent of voters opposed compared to 34.64 percent in favor.

Post 2 councilman Mike King had no opposition.

Peachtree City had a voter turnout totaling 7.5 percent of registered voters.

In the Senoia election, the only contested race was for the Post 4 City Council seat. Incumbent Bobby Graham, garnering 60.65 percent of the vote compared to the 27.51 percent for Doris Chappell and 11.83 percent that went to Don Rehman.

Post 3 Councilman Maurice Grover was unopposed.

The voter turnout in Senoia was 15.8 percent.

In Tyrone, Mayor Eric Dial won the race against challenger Derrick Jackson. Dial received 68.12 percent, or 1,169 votes, while Jackson took 547 votes, or 31.88 percent.

Incumbent Post 2 Councilman Ryan Housley defeated challenger and Planning Commissioner Will James with 1,116 votes to 536, or 67.27 percent to 32.31 percent.

Post 1 Councilwoman Linda Howard was unopposed.

Tyrone had a 32 percent voter turnout.

The election in Fayetteville resulted in Mayor Greg Clifton and Councilman Mickey Edwards losing their seats on the City Council.

Mayoral challenger and Post 1 Councilman Ed Johnson received 53.46 percent, or 673 votes, while Clifton had 46.23 percent, or 582 votes.

The Post 2 council race saw incumbent Mickey Edwards receiving 48.06 percent, or 583 votes, and challenger Kathleen Brewer taking home 618 votes, or 50.95 percent.

The Post 1 election, representing the seat held by Johnson, saw Harlan Shirley, the only qualifier, receiving 80 percent of the vote. Write-in candidate Mimi Oddo received 19.95 percent of the votes cast.

The voter turnout in Fayetteville was 10.7 percent.

The old saying that every vote counts had more than a ring of truth in Sharpsburg. That was the case in the Post 1 council race that ended with George Amey and Stan Parten both receiving 33 votes. The runoff election is scheduled for Dec. 1. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Also in Sharpsburg, Mayor Wendell Staley was re-elected with 38 votes, receiving 54.29 percent of the votes while challenger and Post 3 Councilwoman Celene Davenport received 45.71 percent, or 32 votes.

Polly Garlington was elected the Post 3 seat with no opposition.

The voter turnout in Sharpsburg was 42.4 percent.

And in Turin with two council seats up for election, the top two vote-getters were challengers Michael Frnka, who received 80 votes, and Alan Stapp, who received 76 votes.

Incumbents Tony Crunkleton and Susan Reimer took home 42 votes and 35 votes, respectively.

The voter turnout in Turin was 53.8 percent.
