Good turnout for yard sale

People from Fayette County and beyond came out Oct. 17 for the 15th Annual Fall Yard Sale hosted by the Fayette County Parks & Recreation Department. This region-wide event connected a wide group of participants including individuals trying to clear out their garage/basement while earning some extra money, artists and crafters with handmade items, groups needing to hold a fundraiser, and also shoppers looking for gently-used items (or sometimes even new or handmade) at a great price.

Attendees to the event were greeted by 50+ booths of bargains covering over 14,000 square feet of booth space.  Items for sale ranged from clothing & household goods, tools & sports equipment, plants & gardening items, and even hand-made crafts and jewelry.  None of this would have been possible without the local residents and groups that reserved booth space to sell their goods.  All booth space was sold out over a month prior to the event.

Booth vendors were joined by Fayette County Special Olympics volunteers holding a fundraiser with Chick-fil-A biscuits & sandwiches, coffee, baked goods, drinks, and much more!  Proceeds from the fundraiser help support their mission of providing year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

The Recreation Department has now begun the planning for the Spring Yard Sale scheduled for April 2, 2016.  Booth vendor registration will start in January with full details published in the 2016 Winter/Spring Activity Brochure.  The brochure will be available in print and online in early December.
