0Edgefield Baptist Church will host the Edward Franklin Thomas Cancer Awareness Walk Saturday, Oct. 10, at the church, 140 Church St., Fayetteville. Warm-ups begin at 8:30 a.m.; the walk begins at 9 a.m. There is no registration fee. Following the walk there will be a rally with speakers, information and giveaways. Any proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society.
The approximate 3.5 mile walk was previously named the Shirley Thomas Breast Cancer Walk. The name was changed in memory of Edgefield’s previous pastor who transitioned due to cancer in 2011. Edgefield’s present senior pastor is Elder Daniel Smart.
