One cure: Lock your cars
Peachtree City residents have experienced 15 incidents of thieves stealing from their vehicles during the past two weeks. Most of the crimes occurred at residences and nearly all the vehicles came as easy prey because they were unlocked.
Seven of the entering auto cases came over the weekend on Aug. 21 and 22. All occurred to the east and west sides of Huddleston Park in Glenloch Village.
Two of the incidents occurred on Bay Point while two others took place on Palomino Path, one on Salt Lick Trace and one on Broken Bit Way.
Police department spokesman Mark Brown said it appeared that most or all of the vehicles were unlocked.
A resident reporting on a social media site said multiple unlocked vehicles in the Van Ness area off Battery Way were entered overnight on Aug. 24. He reported cash and wallets stolen.
The daily activity log supplied by the police department showed only one reported incident of entering auto on Aug. 25 on Van Ness, reported at 6:40 a.m.
Police records showed eight entering auto incidents last week. Three of those were also on Rosewood Court, two were at residences on Martingale Drive east of South Peachtree Parkway off Windgate Road, two occurred at the Longhorn Steakhouse and one took place at the Line Creek Nature Area on Ga. Highway 54 West.
Of these incidents, four of the vehicles were unlocked.
Police continue to remind residents to lock their vehicles and home and when in the community and keep valuables out of sight.
