The University of West Georgia Alumni and the Coweta Alumni Council hosted a Coweta County Freshman sendoff event on Thursday night to welcome Coweta’s incoming freshmen to UWG.

More than 80 participants attended the event, including recent UWG graduates and long-time alumni members. Alumni met with parents and students in an informal gathering held at the newly renovated historic Newnan hospital which opened as UWG Newnan in May.

The sendoff event provided incoming freshmen students and their families a chance to gather with future classmates over dinner, while allowing alumni and friends the opportunity to offer congratulations and well-wishes. The casual meal was the third annual send-off event in Coweta County.

“Our Freshman Sendoff events serve as an opportunity to connect students with alumni, and we value that connectedness,” explained Director of Alumni Relations Frank Pritchett. “Walking around last night, I observed a number of alumni talking with the incoming freshmen, offering insight and encouragement to these students as they embark on a new life chapter. The interaction is so rewarding for the alumni and the students.”

UWG President Dr. Kyle Marrero and UWG Newnan Senior Director Dr. Bob Heaberlin also joined the alumni in welcoming the freshmen at Thursday’s gathering.

In addition to the Coweta County event, the UWG Alumni Association previously hosted freshmen sendoff events in Douglas and Cobb counties. The UWG Alumni Association connects the university to its surrounding communities through programs that connect future and incoming students with UWG.
