UWG announces Newnan events

The University of West Georgia invites the public to attend a multitude of events to celebrate the opening of UWG Newnan at its new home in the renovated historic Newnan hospital on Jackson Street.

Freshmen Sendoff (Thursday, Aug. 13, 7 p.m.) – The UWG Alumni Association and Coweta Alumni Network Council would like to welcome all incoming freshmen and their parents who have chosen to Go West from Coweta County. There will be food, fun, and a celebration. All UWG alumni and friends in Coweta County are welcome to help celebrate. For info or to RSVP, call 678-839-6582 or go to alumni.westga.edu/events. Newnan A DAY to Give West (Thursday, Aug. 13, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.) – A day of celebration to build a better, stronger university, and to enrich the lives of students and the surrounding community. Donors will be recognized throughout the day with a special thank you. Gifts support scholarships, program development, and the UWG Newnan. To make a gift go to www.giving.westga.edu/givewest.

College for a Day (Friday, Aug. 14, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.) – Attend up to five lectures (one each hour), and also get a firsthand look at the facility. Registration is open to all citizens and friends in the Coweta community and beyond, but is limited to 225 participants. Register at collegeforaday.westga.edu. Cost is $25.
 
Opening Reception (Friday, Aug. 14, 6:30 p.m.) – Celebrate the opening of UWG Newnan with cocktails, hors d’oeuvers, and music. Benefits UWG Newnan facility expansions. Cocktail attire. Cost is $100.
 
Wolf Walk n’ Wag (Saturday, Aug. 15, 9-11 a.m.) – Bring your dog and walk through the residential neighborhoods around the new UWG Newnan site. Start and end at UWG Newnan, 80 Jackson Street. Register and order your T-shirt at westga.edu/newnancelebration. Cost is $20.

Family Fun Day (Sunday, Aug. 16, 2-5 p.m.) – Come to the front lawn of 80 Jackson Street for live music and fun kids activities. UWG theatre, art, and music programs will present an Imagination Station for kids including piano steppers, sock puppetry, face painting, and making musical instruments. Country music bands will feature Nashville singers/songwriters and brothers Adam and Brian Wright along with local talent. Free admission.
