John Lynch of the Fayette County Historical Society spoke recently to the Peachtree City Rotary Club. He talked about Civil War events in and around the Fayette County area. He entertained the audience with stories about how the Fayette County courthouse was spared from being burned by Union forces, and the major cavalry skirmish at Shakerag by the retreating Federal Army.
The Fayette County Historical Society was chartered in 1971 as a nonprofit corporation to discover, collect, preserve and make accessible to the public, materials which establish and illustrate the history of the county, its towns and villages.
