Seven from SMHS at Miss Georgia

Starr’s Mill High School will be well-represented at the 71st annual Miss Georgia Pageant, which is June 17-20 at the River Center for Performing Arts in Columbus – with seven participants who are current students or alumni.

Among those competing for the title of Miss Georgia Outstanding Teen are Yuri Grace Ohashi, Miss Starr’s Mill Outstanding Teen and a rising junior; Alexa Echevarria, Miss Southern Fayette Outstanding Teen and a rising senior; and Hollyn Shadinger, Miss Peachtree City Outstanding Teen and a rising senior.

The reigning Miss Georgia Outstanding Teen, 2015 Starr’s Mill graduate Abigail Feltner, will be entertaining all four nights of the pageant.

Contestants competing for the title of Miss Georgia include Lindsay Quandt, Miss Historic Southern Plains and a 2011 SMHS graduate; Elizabeth Buckalew, Miss Cherokee Rose and a 2011 SMHS graduate; and Mariah Blanks, Miss River City and a 2015 SMHS graduate.

The winner will compete in the Miss American pageant in September in Atlantic City, N.J.

All of these young women participated in the Miss Starr’s Mill High School Scholarship Pageant at Starr’s Mill. Ohashi is the reigning Miss Starr’s Mill; Feltner was 2014 Miss Starr’s Mill; and Buckalew was 2011 Miss Starr’s Mill. Shadinger was 2015 1st runner-up; Echevarria was 2015 4th runner-up; Blanks was 2015 2nd runner-up; and Quandt was 2011 top ten.

The Miss Starr’s Mill Scholarship Pageant is the annual fundraiser for the drama department at Starr’s Mill.  It has grown to be the largest high school scholarship pageant in the nation, awarding over $40,000 in scholarships since it began in 2001.
