Update: June 8, 3:15p.m. – Fayetteville Police spokesman Mike Whitlow on Monday said video from Applebee’s shows Smith leaving the restaurant at 2:58 a.m. Whitlow said it is believed that some type of interaction occurred between Smith, who was subsequently fatally shot, and the shooter outside Smith’s vehicle.
Original story – The 27-year-old manager of the Applebee’s restaurant on North Glynn Street in Fayetteville was the victim of an apparent homicide during the early morning hours of June 7.
Fayetteville Police Department spokesman Mike Whitlow said the girlfriend of the manager, College Park resident Gregory Smith, became concerned when he did not return home after work.
Smith normally left the restaurant around 2 a.m., said Whitlow.
Whitlow said the girlfriend traveled to the store around 6:30 a.m. and found her boyfriend in his vehicle.
Whitlow said there was a bullet hole in the driver’s window and shell casings found in the parking lot near the vehicle.
Whitlow said police are canvassing local businesses for surveillance video. Fayetteville Police are asking anyone who was in the area between approximately 2 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. and may have seen anything suspicious to notify the Fayetteville Police Department at 770-461-4441 or Detective Scott Gibson at 770-719-4226.
Whitlow said investigators will release more information as it becomes available.
