F’ville may want what PTC didn’t: Great Wolf Lodge

After a resounding rejection by the Peachtree City Council, the possibility of Great Wolf Lodge setting up shop somewhere else in the county was discussed Thursday night.

During the Fayetteville City Council meeting, Councilman Jim Williams said he would be in favor of talking to the Great Wolf representatives about locating in Fayetteville, perhaps along the Veterans Parkway corridor.

“The road just has to be extended a little more and it would actually be closer to I-85 than the Peachtree City location,” Williams said.

Great Wolf Lodge currently operates 13 family-oriented, all-suites water park resorts. The only facility in the Southeast is located in Charlotte, N.C. The Charlotte resort offers a variety of suites for 4-8 people and ranges in price from $199-400 per day.

City Manager Ray Gibson said the city’s staff was set to have a conference call with Great Wolf officials, but said Fayetteville was not the only city looking for the lodge to locate in its boundaries.

“I understand that Stockbridge and Gwinnett County are also interested in them,” Gibson said.

Gibson said a problem could arise because Fayetteville does not have the capacity to offer incentives like other governments can do.

“We have a Tax Allocation District on the west side, but that hasn’t been approved yet,” he said.
