What began as a list of 126 candidates for the Peachtree City police chief’s job will soon be narrowed to at least three. The finalists for the job are expected to be interviewed on June 2.

City Manager Jim Pennington after the May 21 City Council meeting said a panel that consisted of himself, city attorney Ted Meeker, Human Resources Director Ellece Brown and Community Services Division/Public Services Division Director John Rorie made up the panel that whittled the large list to seven candidates.

A second panel will interview at least three finalists with the interview date expected to be on June 2, said Pennington.

That panel will consist of resident and Piedmont Fayette Hospital Executive Director of Community and Public Relations Debbie Britt, LaGrange Police Chief Lou Dekmar, Rev. George Dillard, Meeker and Pennington as an observer.

Pennington said the names of the finalists and their resume information will be released next week.

Pennington has the final say in the hire.

Captain Stan Pye is currently serving as interim chief.
