Senoia is preparing for what is expected be the biggest Memorial Day event in the 10-year history of the Memorial Day Remembrance and Festival.

The activities on Memorial Day will begin at 10 a.m. in the downtown area. A sampling of the events include activities for the kids, live music and entertainment, arts and crafts vendors, antique dealers and, of course, plenty of food at the food court.

The occasion will also provide an opportunity to meet veterans who will be in town for the annual event. In keeping with that spirit, veterans from all wars will be the honorary grand marshals for the parade.

The patriotic program will begin at noon, emceed by Scott Sargeant and Charlie Filkins, and will include entertainment by the Godin Family.

The annual parade will begin at 2 p.m. and will include the return this year of the 116th Army Band.

The Senoia Downtown Development Authority said Senoia shops and restaurants will be open during the day-long event.

The Memorial Day activities will conclude at dark with the annual fireworks display over Marimac Lakes on Pylant Street. Parking for the display will be available a short walk away at the ball fields on Howard Road.

Organizers said there is still room for arts and crafts vendors and antique dealers wanting to have a space at the event. The registration fee is $50. Registration forms can be obtained at City Hall, at the Welcome Center on Main Street or online at www.senoia.com or by contacting Gail Downs at 770-378-6627 or Suzanne Helfman at 770-599-8182.

Those interested in having an entry in the parade, for which there is no fee, can visit www.senoia.com, the Welcome Center or contact Downs or Helfman.
