The Fayette County sheriff’s deputy with the highest number of DUI arrests in the county in 2014 has received an award from Mothers Against Drunk Driving (M.A.D.D.).
Investigator Brennan Kersey on April 9 at the M.A.D.D. Golden Shield Honors at the Georgia World Congress Center received the M.A.D.D. Silver Pin award for making 63 DUI arrests in 2014, said Sheriff Barry Babb.
Babb said qualifying for the honor requires a minimum of 50 DUI arrests during the year.
Also at the ceremony, Kersey and Investigator Chad Cowart received the Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) Red Achievement award for performing more the 15 drug influence evaluations as a DRE, Babb said.
Babb said a DRE evaluation is a 12-step process used to determine which drug, or combination of seven drug categories, a subject has used causing his or her impairment.
“I congratulate Investigator Kersey and Investigator Cowart for keeping our roadways safe from impaired drivers,” said Babb.
