Hundreds of families and business leaders are getting ready for the nation’s oldest walking fundraiser — the March of Dimes annual March for Babies — on April 18 at Picnic Park in Peachtree City.
The 2015 Fayette Ambassador Family is the Kirchner Family. Darby and Scott experienced all three of their children being born prematurely. They have been able to see first-hand the steps that March of Dimes has made in the fight against prematurity. Even though each child was born too soon, the advancements made between their births allowed for a shorter time spent in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The Kirchner family is dedicated to making sure other parents have the same happy ending.
The Kirchner Family is joined by Gwen Gaddy, the Fayette 2015 March for Babies Chair. Gwen, too, knows how important the March of Dimes mission is to families. Premature birth is the leading cause of newborn death in this country. As a grandparent, she wanted to raise awareness and funds to prevent premature birth and give more moms a healthy baby.
Registration begins at 8:30a.m. with the 3.7-mile walk kicking off at 10 a.m. Participation in March for Babies will provide a memorable and rewarding day for the whole family including music, face painting, bounce house and a picnic lunch. Participants will also have the opportunity to learn about local businesses that sponsor the walk.
Funds raised by March for Babies in Georgia help support prenatal wellness programs, research grants, newborn intensive care unit (NICU) family support programs and advocacy efforts for stronger, healthier babies.
