Chiefettes state champs again

The McIntosh Chiefettes dance team followed up a top-15 national finish in Orlando at the beginning of the month with a state title performance last weekend at home.

The team took first place in both the pom and jazz categories in the Georgia Dance Championship, making them state champions for the sixth consecutive year.

Izzy Roberts placed first in the teen solo division and Lauren Shelfo was seventh. In the senior solo division the team swept the top spots, as Madison Immel, Darby Smith and Ally Cox placed 1-2-3 out of 36 competitors.

Competing at the UDA National Dance Team Championship Jan. 31-Feb. 1, the squad just missed the finals cut in small varsity pom before advancing to the final round for the first time in small varsity jazz, one of only 17 to do so out of 70 participating teams. They wound up with a 12th-place finish.
