Georgians have created a multitude of unique ways to celebrate the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on the national day set aside to honor the state’s native son, but free dental screenings might qualify as one of the most original ideas.

It’s a tradition in the Dental Hygiene program at Clayton State University, though.

Dental hygiene students, staff and faculty will provide free dental screenings, x-rays, and oral health education to patients as part of the school’s annual MLK Day of Service.

This year’s Day of Service is Tuesday, Jan. 20. Services will be provided in the Clayton State Dental Hygiene Clinic on the first floor of Edgewater Hall from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The goal is to provide free oral health screenings and prescribe radiographs for 28 new patients.

Call the Clayton State Dental Hygiene Clinic receptionist at 678-466-4920 to schedule an appointment.

This project is an assignment for the senior dental hygiene students’ Spring 2015 Community Dental Health class under the direction of Associate Professor Dr. Gail Barnes.

Clayton State is a unit of the University System of Georgia and offers five degree programs in Fayette County.
