A Citizen’s Fire Academy is set to begin in Peachtree City on Jan. 22.
The classes, sponsored by Peachtree City Fire Rescue, will be held every Tuesday and Thursday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. for five weeks – until Feb. 22.
The unusual learning opportunity allows participants to experience fire emergency situations like entering a zero visibility environment to search for possible victims while wearing full protective clothing and also learn how to pump a fire apparatus and handle a fire hose, and also acquire valuable fire safety and life-saving skills.
The class is free, but applicants must be at least 18-years-old and will be subject to a criminal history and driver’s license background check as a pre-condition to acceptance into the academy. Application deadline is Jan. 17.
More information can be found on the Peachtree City website at www.peachtree-city.org or the Volunteer Firefighters Associations website at www.pcfd.com or by calling 770-631-2526.
Applications are available online or may be obtained from the Fire Department.
