A private security guard at the Bank of America branch in Fayetteville on Ga. Highway 314 was transported for medical care after accidentally shooting herself in the leg Jan. 2 while inspecting a coworker’s firearm in the bank’s break room.

Fayetteville Det. Mike Whitlow said a call of a person shot came into 911 at approximately 12:30p.m. Friday. Officers responded, finding that the supervisor of the security guard on duty at the bank had accidentally shot herself while inspecting her subordinate’s handgun, Whitlow said.

Whitlow said the gunshot was not life-threatening, adding that the woman was transported to Grady Hospital.

Whitlow also noted that the incident occurred in the bank’s break room with the door closed and that many of the customers in the bank were not aware that the incident had occurred.

The name of the guard was not immediately known nor was the name of the company supplying the guard service, said Whitlow.
