Yes, words — and a baseball bat — can cause a skull fracture.
That’s what happened when Emmanuel Landeros-Lopez overheard disparaging remarks about his girlfriend.
Landeros-Lopez, 23, of Fayetteville, took a baseball bat to the man who made those remarks, according to Fayette County Sheriff Barry Babb.
The offended batter was charged with aggravated battery and is being held in the Fayette County Jail without bond, Babb said.
The beatdown happened at a central Fayette County residence shortly after midnight Nov. 14, leaving a man in critical condition after he was severely beaten in the head with a baseball bat, Babb said.
The incident unfolded at the residence on Ga. Highway 54 West when the victim, age 35 and his girlfriend were upstairs arguing. It was during the argument that the victim made derogatory remarks about a woman who was downstairs in the residence. The woman who was the subject of the remarks was Landeros-Lopez’s girlfriend, Babb added.
Landeros-Lopez went upstairs with a baseball bat and began to beat the victim multiple times in the head, said Babb.
Paramedics at the scene said the victim sustained a depressed skull fracture, Babb said, adding that he was transported to Atlanta Medical Center.
Babb said the victim was conscious but was unable to answer basic questions posed by paramedics.
The victim was initially listed in critical but stable condition, said Babb, adding that he was listed in stable condition after surgery and is in the hospital’s intensive care unit.
Both couples reside at the Hwy. 54 home, said Babb.
