Youth from Coweta County will have an opportunity to participate in life-changing mission projects starting Friday, Nov. 14 thru Sunday, Nov. 16 during the River of Life Mission (ROL) weekend.

Cokes Chapel United Methodist, Cornerstone United Methodist, Newnan First United Methodist, and Senioa United Methodist churches have joined forces to return ROL to Coweta County for a successful weekend.

“River Of Life’s mission is to help young people understand the value and importance of helping the less fortunate through hands-on service projects,” said Bobby Totten, Cokes Chapel’s youth director. “Having ROL in Coweta County will help young people understand missions in a broader, yet more personal sense. International missions are definitely important, but the ROL weekend will benefit those that need help in the local community while helping the participants see that they can accomplish great things when we come together for a common purpose.”

Totten said he expects as many as 200 people will serve in various capacities throughout the three-day weekend.

Student service teams led by adults will undertake various projects in the community, such as landscaping, cleaning and repairing gutters, minor carpentry repairs and painting.

“It’s wonderful to see how four local churches have come together to support the ROL weekend,” said Cokes Chapel’s pastor, Mark Jordan, “I can certainly see how this weekend can serve as a springboard for future projects.”

Jordan explained that ROL is an extension of Cokes Chapel’s “Here, There, and Everywhere” campaign as the umbrella for how the church will interact with the community locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.

“This new campaign is aimed at helping people see that missions isn’t just about completing projects, it’s also about building relationships,” he said.

After a 5 p.m. Friday check-in at Cornerstone UMC, the group will attend an 8 p.m. student-focused worship service at Cokes Chapel led by Newnan UMC’s praise band, followed by a spiritual lock-in at Cornerstone.

Students will deploy to their projects early Saturday morning for a full day of service and will attend a worship service that evening at 8 p.m. at Cokes Chapel.

Sunday morning will signal the completion of the project with a final worship service at Cokes Chapel’s Contemporary Worship Center.
