Peachtree City Manager Jim Pennington at the Oct. 16 meeting of the Peachtree City Council announced that interim Police Chief Will McCollom has been appointed to fill the position on a permanent basis.

“We’ve got a quality person on the job,” Penningington said of McCollom. “I was pleased when he was appointed assistant chief. He brings a strong background and is a natural choice.”

Pertaining to McCollom’s work after being appointed assistant chief in September 2012 and his appointment as interim chief in July, Pennington said, “He took every challenge and brought forth everything I hoped for. I’m delighted to promote him. He’s a quality chief.”

McCollom’s salary was listed at $115,000.

McCollom began his career in law enforcement in Cheyenne, Wyoming and served in police departments in Wyoming and Florida before coming to Peachtree City in 2012.

“This is an opportunity for me. I have a lot of respect for the men and women in this department,” McCollom said after the council meeting. “They really do work hard for the city and they make my job easier.”
