A Sept. 29 agreement between Ga. Military College (GMC) and Southern Crescent Technical College (SCTC) will pave the way for SCTC students graduating with an associate’s degree in Applied Science to be guaranteed acceptance to GMC’s new four-year program which will lead to a bachelor’s degree in Applied Science.

GMC is expected to break ground on its new West Fayetteville campus on Oct. 16. The new 26,000 sq. ft. classroom building is expected to open for classes next August. The four-year Applied Science program will be one of GMC’s academic offerings in Fayetteville.

GMC President Lt. Gen. William B. Caldwell, IV and SCTC President Dr. Randall L. Peters on Sept. 29 signed an agreement to formally recognize that both schools are committed to the establishment of an educational partnership to better serve currently enrolled and future students at both institutions, according to GMC Director of Communications Janeen Garpow.

Garpow said the agreement states that any SCTC student who graduates from Southern Crescent with an Associate of Applied Science degree is guaranteed admission into Georgia Military College’s Bachelor of Applied Science program, with complete transferability of all courses. Both schools pledge their support for future collaborative efforts to support the economic and workforce development needs of the communities each serve, Garpow said.

“With today’s commitment, GMC is excited to continue to be a part of the effort to support Gov. Nathan Deal’s Complete College Georgia initiative, which directly supports the needs of students who desire an education to further their goals,” said Caldwell. “This articulation agreement with SCTC is our 38th with colleges and universities in Georgia, and we will continue to pursue agreements to provide as many opportunities as possible for our students.”

Offering his comments on the agreement, Peters, said, “I am confident that this agreement is in the best interests of both institutions, and that long-term, together GMC and SCTC will provide opportunities that simply do not exist today for our students otherwise. I look forward to a long and productive partnership with Georgia Military College.”

Garpow said the two institutions entered into an Articulation Agreement in support of “Complete College Georgia” to assist and promote the transferability of the Associate of Applied Science degrees from SCTC to the Bachelor of Applied Science degrees at GMC with a major in business management, supervision and management, allied health, and film arts.
