UPDATED June 1 — A mid-morning accident Friday on Ga. Highway 314 and Pavilion Parkway in Fayetteville involving two vehicles resulted in the death of one child and the injury of three others along with the driver of one of the vehicles. All were transported by air and ambulance to area hospitals.
Fayetteville Police spokesman Mike Whitlow said the accident occurred at the intersection of Hwy. 314 and Pavilion Parkway.
Whitlow said that there has been only one confirmed fatality and that another child is in extremely critical condition. The two remaining children are in serious condition, Whitlow added.
The Camry was traveling northbound on Hwy. 314 and turned into the path of a pick-up truck traveling southbound. Initial indications are that the truck had the right-of-way, Whitlow said, adding that it is not currently clear if the driver of the car was making a left turn or a u-turn.
Whitlow said that, along with the male driver of the car, there were four children in that vehicle, ages 3,4,6 and 8. All four were reported to be in the back seat of the vehicle. Two of the children were life-flighted while the remaining two children and the driver of the car were transported by ambulance, all to area hospitals, Whitlow said.
The driver of the truck, the only occupant of that vehicle, was not injured but was shaken and distraught, said Whitlow.
Whitlow said the accident is being investigated by Fayetteville Police and the Ga. State Patrol’s accident reconstruction team.
