Fayette County Commissioner Steve Brown is offering a $500 reward to find out who damaged a fellow commissioner’s pickup truck decked out with Brown’s campaign sign that was parked in the Braelinn shopping center this past weekend.
Brown said someone scratched the truck down both sides, though police have told him surveillance video of the parking lot doesn’t show anything conclusive during the time in question. The incident occurred over the weekend when the truck was parked near the Kroger gas pumps, Brown said.
The truck is owned by Brown’s fellow commissioner, Randy Ognio, and one of Brown’s large campaign signs was displayed in the bed of the truck.
Brown said the “criminal act” amounted to bullying others to keep them from supporting candidates.
“Criminal activity as a source of creating fear and non-participation in the political process is disgraceful and inexcusable,” Brown said.
Brown said he has suffered from vindictive acts before because of his politics, and he can take it, but he hates to see volunteers pay the price for such shenanigans.
“I can take it, but volunteers should not have to endure that stuff,” Brown said. “… If somebody can bring someone to a conviction I would gladly give them the 500 bucks because I’m just tired of this stuff.”
