Peachtree City United Methodist Church (PTCUMC) hosted its first Global Impact Celebration (GIC) last month and, based on the congregation’s response, the church is already beginning plans for next year’s GIC.
“It was an exceptional week in the life of our church,” said the Rev. Keith Windmiller, associate pastor for Serve Ministries.
The celebration featured more than 20 missionary guests and speakers from around the world and around the neighborhood, with discussions and events for all ages. Missionaries shared their stories, helping church members gain a deeper understanding of their organizations and the work they were doing around the world.
Invited guests included local organizations like Fayette Samaritans, Healing Bridge Clinic,Wellspring Living and Square Foot Ministry.
Regional ministries included Trinity Community Ministries, Central Men’s Shelter, Red Bird Missions in Appalachia, Officers Christian Fellowship, Lifeline Children’s Services, Murphy-Harpst Children’s Home, and Kairos Prison Ministries.
International ministries included Mission Aviation Fellowship, African Inland Mission, Ambassadors for Christ Internationa, Operation Mobilization, The International Leadership Institute, Wycliffe Bible Translators, Hope For Today (India), Kipuke Ministries (Togo), Children’s Orphanage (Liberia), Guatemala Missions to the Impoverished, The Colombian Methodist Church; and the Stotler Family in South Africa.
The celebration closed with worship services on Sunday. Church members were given the opportunity to make a Faith Promise, an anonymous commitment to PTCUMC’s outreach efforts, to be fulfilled within the next year.
At the end of the day, church leaders announced that members had committed to contribute more than $890,000. In addition, 150 people had committed themselves in service to God.
“I was deeply touched by the congregation’s response at the Faith Promise and Life Commitments services,” said Windmiller. “The amount of money promised was far and above anything anyone could have imagined. It was a great joy to see people committing their lives for the building of God’s Kingdom.”
