Francis William “Bill” Walker, 89, of Sharpsburg, passed away February 26, 2014. He served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II and later retired from the Jacksonville, Florida Shipyards in 1988. He relocated to Sharpsburg, Ga. to be close to his family in 2001. Bill was a devoted and loving husband and father. Known as “Poppie” to his grand kids and their children, he had a special gift with kids of all ages. Friend to many, stranger to none, he loved life and lived to serve others.
Mr. Walker was preceded in death by his son William Brian Walker; two brothers and a sister.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Dorothy “Dot” Walker; daughter Frances “Kay” (Frank) Fry; daughter Connie Jean (Gary) Miller; son Dr. William “Bill” Walker; grandchildren Shelly, Shana, Shawn, Shane, Brian and Jamie; 16 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Sunday, March 2, 2014 at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Peachtree City with visitation for out-of-town friends and family beginning at 2 p.m. Dr. Joey Rodgers will officiate. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Mowell Funeral Home, Peachtree City. Burial will be Monday at 12:30 at Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, Ga.
