Fayette County Hall of Fame to induct class of 2014

    The Fayette County High School Distinguished Alumni and Sports Hall of Fame Dinner and Induction Ceremony for 2014 is March 15 at 6 p.m. in the high school cafeteria.

    The Hall of Fame was created in 1999 to honor graduates who excelled in athletics at the high school or college level, as well as those who have made significant contributions to society since graduation. Since its inception, the Hall has inducted 76 athletes and coaches as well as 42 distinguished alumni. The Class of 2014 includes three student athletes, two distinguished alumni, and one special recognition.

    The athletes in the Class of 2014 are Karen Sagon, Robert Mask and Michael Mask. Karen is a 1982 graduate and competed in softball, basketball and tennis. Robert is a 1989 graduate and competed in baseball. Michael, who is the brother of Robert, is a 1994 graduate and also competed in baseball.

    The distinguished alumni in the Class of 2014 are Dr. Harriet Smith and Brent Scarborough.

    Harriet is a 1973 graduate and is currently Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Women’s Health at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, NY. Brent is a 1982 graduate and is the founder of Brent Scarborough and Company, Inc.

    His company has been providing land development expertise to the state of Georgia since 1985. The special recognition for 2014 is Carolyn Cary. Carolyn is being recognized for her tireless service as the official Fayette County Historian since 1981.

    All interested persons are invited to attend the banquet. The cafeteria at Fayette County High is located down the hall from the main entrance at 1 Tiger Trail. Tickets for the dinner are $20 and can be purchased in advance at Fayette Sporting Goods located in the Fayette Place Shopping Center just south of the Dairy Queen on Ga. Highway 85 north in Fayetteville or at the Fayette County High School front office.
