Fayette Presbyterian group will offer AARP Driver Safety Program

The ESPs (Extra Special People) of Fayette Presbyterian Church will host an AARP Driver Safety Program class this Thursday, Jan. 23, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a short break for lunch. The class is open to all persons 25 years of age and older.

Participants can expect to learn defensive driving techniques, new traffic laws, rules of the road and much more in this six-hour course. Seniors can find out how to adjust their driving to age-related changes in vision, hearing and reaction time.

After completing the course, an insurance discount of 10 percent is available from auto insurance companies who operate in the state of Georgia.

The course will provide answers to today’s driving challenges such as:

• How to compensate for changes in vision, hearing, and reaction time;

• How to handle problem situations such as left turns, right-of way, freeway traffic, trucks, and blind spots;

• What to do if vehicle has a runaway accelerator;

• What to do if confronted by an aggressive driver;

• When to use a car cell phone;

• How medications may affect driving;

• How to properly use anti-lock brakes, air bags, and safety belts; and

• How to assess one’s own and others abilities via a “Personal Driving Capability Index.”

There is no test at the end of the course.

Participants will receive the Age Related Macular Degenerative vision test free of charge.

As of January the cost of the class, including all class material and certificate for the insurance company is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-AARP members.
