The 39-year-old Fayetteville resident charged two weeks ago with burglary and prowling is now facing new charges of theft and the potential for additional charges relating to other thefts in Fayetteville.

Nakia Johnson was previously arrested on burglary and prowling charges after a woman at a Rabbit’s Run residence awakened to find Johnson in her room, said Det. Mike Whitlow. The street is off North Jeff Davis Drive.

The woman was able to convince Johnson to leave her home, Whitlow said, adding that the woman’s parents were also in the home when Johnson entered the residence.

Investigators subsequently located Johnson based on a physical description and after contact with area residents, Whitlow said.

Pertaining to the recent charge of theft, Whitlow said a tiller previously reported stolen was recovered when Johnson was arrested.

“The tiller was stolen in a recent burglary that had been reported and we found him with it,” Whitlow said.

Whitlow said investigators began checking the history of items Johnson had pawned and compared those items to items stolen in recent burglaries.

“Some of the items matched,” said Whitlow. “We anticipate additional charges stemming from recent burglaries and other area crimes.”
