Rotary Club of Fayetteville honors men and women of Fayette County

During October, Rotarians are encouraged to focus on Vocational Service. The Fayetteville Rotary Club held its annual recognition program for Vocational Service on Oct. 7, 2013, where it presented awards to four outstanding individuals.

As part of Vocational Service Recognition Month, each recipient received a Certificates of Appreciation and joint gifts from the Fayetteville Rotary Club and Frank’s at the Old Mill. Restaurant Manager Darlene Psomas was honored to participate in the presentations.

In education, Ms. Chasity Manning was recognized as the 2013 Fayette County Board of Education Teacher of the Year. Ms. Manning, a product of the Fayette County School System, began her teaching career at J.C. Booth Middle School where she taught reading and Georgia History. In 2004, she transferred to Fayette County High School where she now teaches four units of AP World History and one unit of regular World History.

For Public Safety, Firefighter/Paramedic Robert (Robbie) Moore from Fayette County’s Fire and Emergency Services was recognized as the 2013 Fayette County Firefighter of the Year. Robbie joined the department in 2004 after serving as a volunteer firefighter. He quickly became an accomplished firefighter and EMT and is a favorite of most officers to have on their crew. Robbie has been faced with some significant personal struggles with a very ill child. During this time Robbie has finished paramedic class, his college curriculum and will be testing soon with the national Registry of EMT’s to obtain his Paramedic certification.

Tonja Dobson was recognized as the Fayette County 2013 Healthcare Employee of the Year. She has worked in the hospital setting in clinical roles since 1997 and has been instrumental in improving the quality of nursing care in our community. She joined Piedmont Fayette Hospital in June 2006 as a staff nurse and since January 2011 has served as a Senior Clinical Informatics Specialist. Throughout her nursing career, Tonja has been recognized for her outstanding performance. She was selected as the 2008 Piedmont Fayette Hospital Nurse of the Year, 2006 AJC Nursing Excellence Nominee and 2013 March of Dimes Nurse of the Year Nominee.

The Officer of the Year for the Fayetteville Police Department was Lieutenant Brad Milstein. Lt. Milstein is a 15-year veteran police officer. He began his law enforcement career with the Spalding County Sheriff’s Office and has been with the Fayetteville Police Department since March 2008. He graduated from the Law Enforcement Training Center of Middle Georgia where he received the award for the highest academic average and shooting in the top 10% of the class. Lt. Milstein is a member of the Peachtree City/Fayetteville Special Response Team. He is a firm believer in enforcing the laws of the State of Georgia in a fair and consistent manner keeping in mind the spirit of the law as well as the letter of the law.
