Early Sunday gunfire across Lake Peachtree leaves questions

The Fayette County 911 center received numerous calls during the early morning hours of Oct. 27 reporting multiple gunshots around Lake Peachtree in Peachtree City.

The shooter remains unknown, but police did confirm that one of the bullets penetrated the exterior and wall of a residence on Lakeaires.

The multiple gunshots occurred at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Oct. 27, with at least one resident reporting what sounded like automatic weapons fire totaling approximately 30 rounds.

Peachtree City Police spokesman Mark Brown said officers were dispatched at approximately 3:30 a.m. to complaints from Willowbend, Lakeside and Pebblestump Point residences but were also unable to locate the source of the disturbance, reports said.

Brown said the Fayette County 911 center received approximately 30 calls reporting the gunshots while Peachtree City Police received a call later that day in reference to a bullet which was found to have penetrated an exterior wall and interior wall in a residence on Lakeaires.

Officers determined it to be a .223-caliber round. The bullet appeared to have impacted the house at a downward angle, according to reports.

Residents of the home said they heard a loud party during the previous night, though they were unable to determine the source of the noise, according to reports.
