An 82-year-old relative of Fayetteville resident Robert Scott Kelly is still in critical condition at Grady Hospital after allegedly being beaten by Kelly with a pair of pliers last week. Another relative and a family friend were also beaten a short time before Kelly was arrested on Ga. Highway 54 on the city’s west side, police said.
Kelly, 40, was charged with two counts of criminal attempt to commit murder, two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of aggravated battery and felony criminal damage, said Sheriff Barry Babb.
The Oct. 8 incident was initially reported as a domestic disturbance at a Sharon Drive home where the perpetrator was reported to have left the premises.
Deputies arriving at the scene learned that Kelly had returned to the home after a recent separation, forced his way into the house and began beating the three women present with a pair of pliers, Babb said.
Babb said two of the women, including the 82-year-old, were related to Kelly and the other was a friend of the family.
All three women were transported to Grady Hospital. Two of the women were subsequently released while the older woman remains in critical condition, Babb said Tuesday morning.
Kelly after fleeing the residence was located and stopped a short time later on Hwy. 54 West, Babb said. Kelly was handcuffed and taken into custody, said Babb.
