Allyn Glover last year said he would find another location in Coweta County to hold Horror Hill, the long-running Halloween venue, after the Coweta County Commission last year said his Ware Road location would have to go. Commissioners last week approved a special use permit that will relocate the seasonal venue, now called “13 Stories,” on industrial property on Temple Avenue.

The site approved by commissioners is the site of the old Playtex plant located on 4.6 acres at 320 Temple Avenue. The 54,000 square-foot building is located on property near Ga. Highway 16 that carries an industrial zoning.

Commissioners gave unanimous approval to the request that included a number of conditions. Though zoned for years as an industrial site where three shifts per day can operate, a number of residents from the nearby subdivision asked that the special use permit not be granted for fear that some patrons would use streets in their neighborhood to access the site.

One of the conditions in the approval required that a barricade be positioned so that access to and from the property be prohibited. Another condition required that a police officer be on duty during peak hours, though Glover said he would pay to have an officer on duty each night.

“13 Stories” will be in operation during September, October and the first two weeks of November. It will be open Wednesdays through Sundays and is expected to draw 200-500 people each night of operation.

Commissioners last September approved the Halloween venue for a final year at its location on Ware Road. The annual Halloween event located on the 7.14-acre site for nearly 29 years was called into question after commissioners last year adopted a special events ordinance that required a special use permit and accompanying regulations.

Glover at the 2012 meeting said he would find another location in Coweta to continue the annual Horror Hill event.
