After a one-year hiatus, the Great Georgia Airshow will roar back to life Oct. 11-13 at Falcon Field Airport in Peachtree City with its first-ever “night show” featuring a fireworks show and a “pyro show” executed by an airplane flying in complete darkness.
Also slated to perform in the Friday-only night show are the Aeroshell Aerobatic Team, the Magic By Moonlight plane, the Misty Blues all-female skydiving demo team and the FlashFire Jet Truck.
The Friday night show is an expansion of the airshow’s traditional two-day event and requires a separate ticket. They are not skimping on the daytime show either, with some 21 performers expected to attend.
“Seventy-five percent of the performers are new to the show” said Air Show Director Angie Faulise. “We also have a team of new volunteers that have energized our show with innovative and creative ideas, such as hospitality chalets and the use of social media.”
In addition to having a slate consisting largely of new performers, the reboot of The Great Georgia Airshow will include live music, food trucks, craft beer and a host of other entertainment. There will also be a myriad of kids’ activities on-site as well.
As always the airshow will feature static displays of aircraft, allowing the public to get an up-close look at warbirds and other private aircraft both old and new.
The show benefits more than 40 area non-profit and civic organizations, and it also has helped the local economy. Conservative estimates of business activity due to preparation and staging of the event are at $1.13 million, airshow officials said.
“GGAS is without a doubt a premier aviation event with something for everyone,” Faulise said. “But more importantly, it’s a chance for the community to come together in support of many groups and causes.”
The airshow was named a Top 20 Event by the Southeastern Tourism Association.
More than 10,000 tickets have been pre-sold, setting the stage for the county’s largest event of the year.
The Great Georgia Airshow is hosted by the Dixie Wing of the Commemorative Air Force. To purchase tickets, become a sponsor or volunteer, visit the airshow website at www.thegreatgeorgiaairshow.com.
