Clayton State University’s Spivey Hall (www.spiveyhall.org), the Southeast’s premier recital hall renowned internationally for its superior acoustics and the excellence of its classical, jazz and world music artists, today announced details of its October and November 2013 programming.
The start of the venue’s twenty-third season presents concerts in each of the six Spivey series – Piano, String, Vocal, Organ, Guitar and Jazz and Swing. Headlining October’s programming is the Tetzlaff Quartet, making its second Atlanta appearance following its 2008 Spivey Hall debut. November performances include the Spivey debut of Georgia mezzo-soprano Jamie Barton, who recently returned from the U.K. as the winner of BBC Cardiff’s “Singer of the World” competition.
In addition to the Spivey Series performances, Spivey Hall will also host two Honors Choir Workshops and five concerts presented by the Clayton State University Department of Visual and Performing Arts/Division of Music.

Opening the season and Spivey Hall’s Piano Series on October 13 is British pianist Imogen Cooper, who performs Schubert’s magnificent final three sonatas.
The Tetzlaff Quartet, praised for the probing intensity of its performances, ushers in the String Series on October 20.
Leading the Organ Series on November 2 is American organist Paul Jacobs, head of the Juilliard School’s organ department, followed by acclaimed American lyric tenor Nicholas Phan on November 3, the first of four outstanding young singers all making their Spivey Vocal Series debuts. North Shore Chicago native Adam Levin kicks off Guitar Series recitals with his Georgia debut on November 16.
Rounding out the series starts, top jazz pianist Kenny Barron returns for an eagerly awaited trio performance at Spivey Hall on November 23, the first in the Jazz and Swing Series.
