The annual July 4 parade through downtown Newnan has been cancelled due to concerns pertaining to the inclement weather expected Thursday afternoon. The parade will not be rescheduled.
Meantime, the Newnan Rotary Club’s Independence Day fireworks show at Newnan High School has been postponed due to a forecast of heavy rains on July 4.
The fireworks show has been rescheduled for Saturday, July 13. The celebration will begin that day at 6 p.m. with live music, and will conclude with the annual fireworks show at nightfall.
This year’s fireworks extravaganza will be the 28th annual Independence Day celebration at Drake Stadium, and is sponsored by the Newnan Rotary Club, Coweta County, the City of Newnan, Coweta County Schools and Coweta businesses, as a gift to the community.
Admission to the July 13 fireworks show is free. In addition to spectacular pyrotechnics, the patriotic program will feature concessions, live music and family entertainment, beginning at 6 p.m.
“This is one of the biggest events in Coweta County and one of the best Independence Day events in the state of Georgia,” said Walt Thompson, Newnan Rotary Club President. “We still want to celebrate America’s freedom, and we hope everyone can join us on July 13. As always, the event will be geared toward families and toward providing an event for the whole community to celebrate our independence.”
Organizers of the fireworks show were forced to reschedule the event because severe weather forecast for July 3 posed complications for the show’s set-up, and posed safety issues on July 4.
