Lost: one purse. Found: one hero

Recently, my newly graduated FCHS daughter was out with friends, stopped at the Raceway gas station for a slushy, and left her purse on the roof of the car and drove off.

The purse did not make it home with her that night.

After discovering her purse was missing, she and her friends immediately started retracing their tracks to find it – no luck.

The next day was a flurry of calls, stress and concern that keys, money, cards and ID were compromised.

I left work early to take my daughter to the police department to file a report. After picking her up at a friend’s house and before going to the police department, we wanted to return to our house to retrieve some documents.

As we pulled into our driveway, my daughter said, “Wouldn’t be awesome if someone returned my purse and put it in the mailbox?”

My thought was, “Yeah, right! No one does that anymore.” I had a lack of faith at the moment and didn’t think positive about humanity.

I was wrong. People still exist that exhibit honesty and possess true integrity.

His name is Philip E. McFarlin, a resident of Fayette County.

Next time you misplace something of value, think positive that a young man like Philip will be there to save the day. Thank you, Philip, for saving our day.
