Well, hush my mouth. I owe an apology to a couple of people. (Probably more than two, but let’s take things slowly, okay?)
Toward the end of summer of last year (2012), I wrote The Citizen criticizing mobile food trucks, using the term, “roach coach,” that was popular from the 1960s through the 1990s.
In the meanwhile, Peachtree City has passed an ordinance regulating mobile food vendors, and it seems as if the best of these vendors have bubbled to the top.
I was at the Peachtree City Farmers Market May 11 when two of them drove up: Someone selling crepes from what looked like an advanced version of a Star Trek shuttlecraft, and a guy named Jimmy Daniels selling burgers made from grass-fed beef in a high-tech truck. (The burgers were made in the truck; the cattle were fed elsewhere. Pay attention, please.)
These two mobile food vendors are most assuredly not roach coaches. Seems as if technology has not just been applied to computers, but also to mobile food emporia.
I haven’t yet tried the crepes, but I’ve had Jimmy’s burgers and can give them and his operation an unqualified “thumbs up.”
Sorry, guys. I called this one the wrong way.
