More than a dozen local veterans who served in the Vietnam War were recognized by the Fayette County Commission Thursday night. A proclamation was presented declaring it to be “Vietnam Veterans Day” in Fayette County. Alison Chambers also put out a call for volunteers to help plan and execute a special event including a parade to honor Vietnam veterans to give them the true welcome home they deserved instead of the vitriolic protests and scorn they returned to when combat troops withdrew from the country some 40 years ago.
