A national organization supporting wounded veterans has a mortgage-free home in Newnan that will soon go to the recipient of the Homes 4 Wounded Heroes program.
The Military Warriors Support Foundation (MWSF) was founded in 2007 to support wounded combat veterans during their transition back to civilian life. One of the programs, Homes 4 Wounded Heroes, pairs wounded vets with a mortgage-free home.
The foundation’s Homes 4 Wounded Heroes program awards mortgage-free homes for wounded veterans injured in combat in Iraq and Afghanistan. The homes are for families who have severe and/or unique circumstances due to their injuries. Recipients of the homes also receive three years of family and financial mentoring, according to MWSF.
The home in Newnan is a one-story, single-family 1,270 sq. ft. residence built in 1991. The home features three bedrooms, two bathrooms, an attached one-car garage and comes complete with all major appliances.
The program’s goal is to allow veterans and their families to get out of debt and comes with a number of requirements.
Applicants for the program must be a combat-wounded veteran or unmarried Gold Star spouse of OEF/OIF, must be honorably retired or separated from the military except in compelling situations and must not currently have a mortgage.
The closing date for the Newnan home is Feb. 26. The recipient is typically selected within 3-4 weeks prior to the closing date.
