Ms. Betty P. Campbell was born in Samson, Ala. on Jan. 24, 1920 and passed away at home peacefully on Feb. 6, 2013.
As a teen, she played the guitar and sang on the radio. At the age of sixteen, she married Porter Campbell and a year later had a son. Then three years later, a daughter was born and her family was complete.
She and her husband, Porter owned and operated Campbell’s Restaurant in East Point, Ga. After their divorce in 1964, Betty obtained her optician’s license and became an optician for Digby’s Optical Center in Atlanta. A few years later, she continued her career as an optician and manager of Eckerd Optical Center in Riverdale where she retired in 1987.
After her retirement she took a short break, and then went to work for Belk Department Store in Newnan where she enjoyed five more working years. She even did some modeling there, which she really enjoyed, but her greatest satisfaction came from helping people, and giving them a warm, friendly welcome. She always had such a gift for being a hostess, which was a great asset to her employers, as well as her family.
She is a member of Flat Creek Baptist Church in Fayetteville.
She was preceded in death by her son, Carl C. (Van) Campbell and is survived by her daughter, Connie Campbell Bratcher and her husband, Ron Sharpsburg, grandchildren, Barry R. Bullard, Rhonda Metcalf and husband, Tom, Carla Murakami, Angela Bratcher Cusick and husband, Pat; 7 great grandchildren.
