Members of the Fayette County Tactical Narcotics Team (TNT) arrested three men and confiscated marijuana and cocaine in two holiday busts.
Sheriff’s spokesman Josh Shelton said TNT agents on Dec. 19 arrested 17-year-old Riverdale resident Patrick Wilson and 52-year-old Jonesboro resident Jeffrey Smith on a host of charges that included sale of marijuana, possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, possession of a controlled substance (Vicodin), possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, obstruction of a law enforcement officer and possession of a pirated DVD.
Shelton said Wilson and Smith traveled to Fayette County to sell marijuana to undercover agents and were subsequently arrested on the border of Clayton County and Fayette County.
In another incident, TNT investigators on Jan. 3 conducted an operation at the Fayette Pavilion and arrested 23-year-old Omar Simpkins, of Smyrna. Simpkins sold a quantity of marijuana to an undercover officer, was arrested and booked into the Fayette County Jail, Shelton said. He was charged with the sale of marijuana and for possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute, Shelton added.
In a Dec. 31 arrest pertaining to identity fraud, sheriff’s deputies charged 45-year-old Douglasville resident Harold Evans with one felony count of identity fraud. The case originated when Evans used the identifying information of a Fayette County resident to pay his own utility bill, Shelton said.
And on Jan. 3, Clifford Oliver Gill, 36, of LaGrange, was arrested by investigators and charged with one felony count of theft by receiving and one misdemeanor count of theft by receiving, according to reports.
Shelton said Gill is accused of taking items from a home he was living in 2012. The homeowners filed a theft report with the sheriff’s office after discovering the items missing. Sheriff’s investigators were able to track down the stolen items and arrest Gill, said Shelton.
