There are a number of good theater companies in the area and what they have on tap for 2013 seems sure to entertain audiences of all ages.
The Legacy Theatre in Tyrone will present “9 To 5” Fridays-Sundays, Jan. 25-Feb. 17. The musical is based on the comedy starring Dolly Parton, Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda. They will follow that show with a production of “Xanadu,” a hilarious, roller skating, musical adventure based on the 1980 film starring Olivia Newton John and Gene Kelly. “Xanadu” will run Fridays-Sundays, Apr. 19-May 12. Legacy’s summer show will be “Tarzan,” based on the Disney animated film featuring music and lyrics by Phil Collins. This production will be the Atlanta premiere of the show. Performances are Tuesdays-Sundays, July 12-Aug. 4.

A Company of Friends will present “The Little Mermaid, Jr.” Feb. 7-10. Newnan Theatre Company launches the 2013 half of their season on Feb. 14 with the Pulitzer Prize winning drama “Rabbit Hole” (Feb. 14-24). The show features mature content and will be staged in the theater’s Black Box Theater. On a lighter note, the theater will present “Monty Python’s Spamalot,” Mar. 14-24. This will be the first non-touring production of the show in Georgia. The beloved “Driving Miss Daisy,” will play the Black Box Theater Apr. 11-21 and will be followed by Tom Stoppard’s comedy “On the Razzle,” May 9-19. Southside Theatre Guild in Fairburn will present the thriller “Wait Until Dark,” May 2-5, 10-12 and 17-19. The play is about a cool-as-ice psychopath smooth talking his way into the home of an unsuspecting, recently blinded housewife. Unbeknownst to her, she is harboring a dangerous prize, and he’ll use every trick to get it. The musical, “All Shook Up,” will follow “Wait Until Dark.” Loosely based on Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night,” “All Shook Up” tells the story of a small town girl (with big dreams), from somewhere in the middle of a square state…in the middle of a square decade…and the motorcycle-riding stud she falls for.
