James Reid “Jimmy” Thomas, 62 of Sharpsburg (formerly of Peachtree City) was born on May 22, 1950 in Atlanta. Jimmy was a graduate of Roosevelt High School and of Georgia Tech in 1972. He enjoyed fishing and had a love/hate relationship with golf. He loved to “piddle” in his workshop and around the house and enjoyed being outdoors and feeding and caring for his backyard birds. His greatest joy was in being with his family and friends. Yearly trips to the beach with his extended family and trips to Gatlinburg with his wife, Robin, were his favorite getaways.
Jimmy worked for various companies over his career and was most recently employed by Yamaha in Newnan as a Purchasing Agent. He was a longtime member of Dogwood Church in Tyrone.
Jimmy went to his eternal home on Dec. 8th after a ten month battle with brain cancer.
He was preceded in death by his father, Fed Reid Thomas and is survived by his mother Mary Jo Thomas of McDonough. He is also survived by his wife of 32 years, Robin Cook Thomas; son Bryan & Courtney Thomas, granddaughter Zoey; sisters Cindy (Doug) Ayers of Conyers and Patti (Ricky) Gunnyon of McDonough. Jimmy also leaves a large extended family and many special friends.
The family received friends at Mowell Funeral Home located at 200 Robinson Road, Peachtree City from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. at Dogwood Church in Tyrone, Wednesday, Dec. 12, with Pastor Keith Moore and Pastor Barry Odom officiating. Burial will follow at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City, Ga.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Southwest Christian Care (Hospice), Union City, Ga.
